PrP test
Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) is well know disease, because there is possibility to transmit this fatal disease to people. Similar behavior like BSE is considered in sheep under name „scrapie“. Both BSE and scrapie are prion diseases. There is not space to explain transmition of this disease, but very important for us is the theory that some animals are more resistant and some are more susceptible for this disease. There is a variation for Prion Protein (PrP) gene. Most spread alleles are ARR, ARQ and VRQ. Animals who carry ARR alleles are resistant, VRQ are suceptible and ARQ allele has intermediate effect. Every animal has to carry two coppies of gene. So we can receive these most spread genotypes for PrP : ARR/ARR (best genotype), ARR/ARQ, ARR/VRQ, ARQ/ARQ, ARQ/VRQ, and VRQ/VRQ (worst genotype).
All of our animals are tested for PrP genotype and no one carry VRQ allele!
