Generation interval

The generation interval is the average age of the parents at birth of their offspring that in their turn will produce the next generation of breeding animals. The generation interval facilitates to calculate the genetic response per year instead of per generation. The genetic response to selection predicts how much better the next generation will perform compared to the current generation.Decreasing of generation interval means increase genetic progress per year. This is one of reasons why we use our animals for breeding as soon as possible. Our females are used for breeding first time at 7 months of age. Males sometimes earlier. Older rams are used seldom. If we work with older animals we use only top proven and very best quality.
